Who is the Holy Spirit?

When I was a child of only 13, I remember my friends’ father and his cousin telling me about the Holy Spirit.  It was in the year 1986 that I had received the Holy Spirit.

I can remember feeling down, unhappy and life had no meaning to me.  My father had died a year prior when I was 12.  My family was full of divorce, constant fighting in the household and loneliness.  I saw no reason for living.

Who is the Holy Spirit?

I was about to turn to drugs.  I attended one of the worst junior high schools in New York City.  At that time, many kids in my school were dealing drugs.  One drug dealer happened to sit behind me.  I can remember asking him for drugs because I felt that it might kill me.

My father had already died of alcoholism and many addicts were also dying in the 80’s. I thought that this would be the easiest way to die because it had no pain involved. My father slipped into his death at the age of 36.

However, before I could get the money to buy the drugs, I came across another young man in my class that believed in Jesus.  He was a born-again Christian.

At that time, I didn’t know what a born-again Christian was. I was Catholic and received all my sacraments with the church.  However, he began talking to me about Jesus and sharing his faith.  For some reason, I confided in him and began talking to he and his father about my innermost secrets that happened to be by the age of 12.

I began attending church service regularly with his family on Sunday.  The people that attended the church began raising their hands up to praise Jesus.  Of course, I thought it was weird.

I never saw anything like this before.  The people in the church acted as though they knew him.  I asked myself, “How could they possibly know Jesus if he is a spirit?”

Have You Asked The Holy Spirit Into Your Life?

In the summer of 1986, I had hit rock bottom. I was thinking about becoming a drug addict in order to end my life.  However, two men that were sitting with me in the car accepted Jesus and the Holy Spirit into their life.

They asked me if I would like to receive Jesus and the Holy Spirit as well. I said yes.  I began to pray and asked Jesus to be the Lord and savior of my life and for the Holy Spirit to fall upon me.

When the Holy Spirit fell upon me, I felt peace that I had never felt before.  I knew that Jesus was real and that the Holy Spirit was peaceful.  At last, I had found the love and peace that I had been searching for.

When I went home, I began to read the Holy Bible.  I knew that I felt something real that night and I never forgot it.  I later found out that the Holy Spirit was my teacher.

In later years, I had found a book called, “Good Morning Holy Spirit” by Benny Hinn.  It was the most eye-opening book that I had ever read on what it means to be a Christian and accepting the Holy Spirit as well into my life.

I love reading the Bible verses in Acts 2:1-5.  It is a clear depiction of what the Holy Spirit does when he falls upon us.  The Apostle Luke describes it as a blowing wind that fell upon them.

He said that when the Holy Spirit filled the people that were in the room, people began to speak in tongues.  The Holy Bible tells us that tongues were spoken as the spirit lead them.

When I receive my gifts of tongues, I also felt the Holy Spirit coming upon me and I began to speak in a language that I never knew.  When the Holy Spirit falls upon you, you will feel it.

Honor God with Your Body

We live in a culture today that teaches us that we should “be who we are” and do whatever we feel like with our body. However, the New Testament teaches us something different.

In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Apostle Paul teaches us that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.  We do not belong to ourselves, but to God.  We should treat our bodies with respect because the Holy Spirit is inside of us.

When you think of wanting to sin with your body, know that the Holy Spirit is inside of you and that you should not sin with it.  Avoid sin at all costs because you have given your life to Jesus.

Jesus said in John 14:16, that he is giving us the Holy Spirit to dwell with us forever.  This was a gift given to us by our savior. How wonderful it is to have the Holy Spirit.

We also learn in John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit is our teacher. Many times, I will sit back and read the Bible.  I sense the Holy Spirit giving me insights into what I am reading. I have learned a lot from the Holy Spirit.  He also reminds me of when I am sinning.

Acts 2:3-4 teaches us that when we are full of the Holy Spirit, we will speak in tongues. Tongues are a great way to see that the Holy Spirit is actively working in our lives. When I speak in tongues, I am uttering words to God that are deep within my soul. I know that God is listening to my prayers.

Should You Baptize Them in the Name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit?

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus tells his apostles to baptize people in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Jesus also promises to be with us now until the end of time.

Have you ever been baptized by the Father, Son and Holy Spirit?  If not, visit your local church and ask them to be baptized. Baptism is a wonderful experience in which we all need to show that we have repented of our sins and have given our life to Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit can speak through you.  Jesus tells the Apostles that when they are brought to trial.  He tells them that the Holy Spirit will speak through them and say what the spirit wants to at that time (Mark 13:11).

Have you ever been in a situation where you were witnessing to someone about Jesus and you didn’t know what to say to them? Perhaps they were asking you complicated questions that you knew little bit about?  Luckily, the Holy spirit was living inside of you and you began to speak.  Perhaps you didn’t even know half of the things that you were saying but knew that the Lord was placing it on your heart.

The Holy Spirit Knows the Thoughts of God (1 Corinthians 2:11).  It shows that nobody knows a person’s own thoughts except for themselves.  In the same way, the Holy Spirit knows the thoughts of God.

What Happens When the Holy Spirit Lives Inside of You?

When you ask the Holy Spirit into your life, you begin to feel his presence. You know that He is living inside of you and you often will want to show people he is within you as well.  Be careful not to engage in sinful acts with your body. You will feel like you have sinned when you have done something wrong.

Be in a constant state of repentance and asking Jesus for forgiveness. Sometimes, we sin without even knowing we are sinning. We need the Holy Spirit to speak to us when something is going wrong in our lives.  Learn to become a friend with Jesus and to talk to him as though you were talking to me.

If you have backslidden, you can always come back to Jesus and he will forgive you.  Don’t live in sin, it will only destroy your personal relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  When you repent of your sin, you begin to feel the Holy Spirit working in your life again.

When you live in sin, you feel like the Holy Spirit is far from you. However, he is always working inside of you to teach you more about God and to teach you the word of God.

Acts 19:5-6 teaches us that Paul baptized people and the Holy Spirit came upon them and they began to prophecy and speak in tongues!  Wow, even prophecy comes from the Holy Spirit.  It is wonderful to see that the Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts to use.

Did Prophecy Come from Human Will?

According to 2 Peter 1:21, prophecy did not come from human desire.  However, the prophets of God spoke words that were given to them by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Bible also teaches us that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit.  The angel of the Lord told this to Joseph in a dream.

Was The Holy Spirit Here Before the Earth Was Created?

Let us look at Genesis 1:1-2.  The Holy Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit was hovering over the waters and the earth was formless and void.  There was darkness.  This is before the sun was created by God.

The word of God tells us in Matthew 12:32 that we must not speak out against the Holy Spirit.  It says that sins can be forgiven against Jesus, but not the Holy Spirit.  Watch what you say and know that this is words that Jesus gave.

Should You Build Your Relationship with the Holy Spirit?

If you are trying to get to know Jesus, read the Holy Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit to be with you and repent of your sins.  The Holy Bible is clear when it comes to obedience and keeping your body clean from sin.  Those that pollute their body will often feel shame and a knowing inside of them that they have done something wrong.

Keep on following Jesus and change your life. Don’t be “who you are”.  Instead, follow Jesus and see that you need to become born again. Change “who you are” into who God wants you to be.  The only way that you can obtain this knowledge is through reading the Holy Bible and learning who Jesus is.
