What is Christianity? Jesus Christ is the founder of Christianity. The followers of Jesus Christ are called Christians. The Christian religion was founded approximately 2,000 year ago. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are also known to be a disciple. It is estimated that 2 billion people around the world consider themselves to be in the religion of Christianity. Christianity has many denominations. The most popular is Catholicism. Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God. They believe that he died for their sins and through his crucifixion on the cross, they can receive salvation. Jesus Christ died on a cross so that his blood would be for the sacrifice of sins. Christians believe that Jesus is/was God in the flesh. The start of Christianity began in Jerusalem when Jesus Christ began preaching to the Jewish people about him being the long-awaited messiah. He told them that he was there to forgive their sins. The coming of the messiah was and still is a belief that a messiah will come to restore the Jewish people. Jewish people today are still waiting for their messiah and do not believe that Jesus Christs is their messiah. However, many Jewish people have converted to Christianity since the days that Jesus walked on the earth. Jesus had what Christianity refers to as the last supper. The last supper consisted of Jesus 12 apostles. These 12 apostles followed Jesus for approximately three years. They witnessed his miracles of raising the dead, healing the sick and teaching people how to love. Jesus produced many miracles which are described in the New Testament. One of Jesus 12 apostles was known as a traitor. His name was Judas Iscariot. Judas Iscariot would go on to betray his master Jesus Christ for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus told his 12 disciples at the last supper that someone sitting at the table was going to betray him. Judas did not believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God. He felt that he was not the savior even after spending 3 years with him ministering to people and witnessing the miracles that Jesus did. When priests began to feel that Jesus was becoming to powerful, they decided that they wanted to have him crucified. Crucifixion was one of the forms of the death penalty in Roman culture. The Jewish people were under Roman law during that time. However, getting to Jesus would not be easy. He had thousands of followers and nobody knew his exact location at any given time except for his disciples. The pharisees (Jewish priests) did meet Judas Iscariot and he agreed to hand Jesus over to them for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus prophesied about his crucifixion long before it happened. He even told his disciples that he would rise from the dead after three days and appear before them. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated in Easter Sunday in Christianity. It is the day in which Christians believe that Jesus raised from the dead. When Jesus rose from the dead, he appeared before his apostles and showed him that he was still alive. He then told them to go and preach his message to the world. Today, two thousand years later, Christianity has spread throughout the world. Everyone in the world has heard of Christianity and now Christians await the return of Jesus Christ. Jesus told his apostles that he would return for his followers at the right appointed time. Jesus never said when that exact time would be. He only told his apostles that he would return. Christianity today is followed by many different cultures, races and nationalities. In some countries like the United States and South Korea, Christianity is the most practiced faith. In Christianity, if a person wants to become a Christian, they simply must ask Jesus Christ into their heart and start to follow him. They can learn more about Christianity through a local church. Orthodox Christians believe that they uphold the true teachings of Jesus Christ and that any other way of practicing Christianity is more misleading. Orthodox Christians believe that they are the original teaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ and that they hold the truth. Christian orthodox churches believe that the Roman Catholic church and protestants are not following the true gospel message of Jesus Christ. Who is the Founder of Christianity? From the early stages of Jesus Christ’s ministry, Christianity began to spread as people began witnessing his miracles. One person would tell another person about Jesus being the messiah. Eventually, Jesus began seeing thousands of people wanting to listen to him preach. The apostles took the gospel message of Jesus and began to tell others about him as well. They were also given power by Jesus Christ to raise the dead, heal the sick and to produce miracles that came from God. As the gospel message was spread by people, Jesus attracted men and women wherever he went. How Did Christianity Spread? In the early stages of Christianity, the gospel message was spread through word of mouth. For the first 300 years of Christianity, Christians would be killed if they were found to be spreading Christianity or believing in it. Books were not written yet. The Apostles were later found to have written letters to the followers of Christ. They would also write their own testimony to the resurrection of Jesus Christ and wrote down their accounts of Jesus as well. Today, we know this as being the Holy Bible. After around 313 A.D., Christians began building churches where people could come and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ preached. Christians no longer had to be in hiding to speak about Jesus. Today, Christianity is spread on television, computers, in churches, books and magazines.
